Congratulations to the #IJCAI2023 award winners
The winners of three IJCAI awards have been announced. These three distinctions are: the Award for Research Excellence, the John McCarthy Award and the Computers and Thought Award.
IJCAI-23 Award for Research Excellence
The Research Excellence award is given to a scientist who has carried out a program of research of consistently high quality throughout an entire career yielding several substantial results.
The winner of the 2023 Award for Research Excellence is Sarit Kraus, Professor of Computer Science, Bar-Ilan University, Israel. Professor Kraus is recognized for her pioneering work on the study of interactions among self-interested agents, creating the field of automated negotiation, and developing methods for coalition formation and teamwork, both as formal models and real-world implementations.
IJCAI-23 Computers and Thought Award
This award is presented to outstanding young scientists in artificial intelligence.
The winner of the 2023 IJCAI Computers and Thought Award is Pin-Yu Chen, IBM, USA. Dr Chen is recognized for his contributions to consolidating properties of trust, robustness and safety into rigorous algorithmic procedures and computable metrics for improving AI systems.
IJCAI-23 John McCarthy Award
This award is intended to recognize established mid-career researchers, typically between fifteen to twenty-five years after obtaining their PhD, that have built up a major track record of research excellence in artificial intelligence.
The winner of the 2023 John McCarthy Award is Dieter Fox, Professor of Computer Science at the University of Washington and Senior Director of Robotics Research at NVIDIA, USA. Professor Fox is recognized for his fundamental contributions to robotics, pioneering Bayesian state estimation, the use of depth cameras for activity recognition, and developing powerful machine learning techniques for perception and manipulation.
