It has been reported that Sweden is extending its investment in AI. An extra SEK 1.3 billion has been pledged that will extend the current programme by another three years, until 2029.
That would bring the total investment for the research programme (which started in 2014) to $585 (5.5 billion SEK). Most of the investment comes from Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP). The remainder is mainly provided by the five partner universities (Chalmers University of Technology, the KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Linköping University, Lund University, and Umeå University) and industry.

The aim is to make Sweden internationally competitive across a broad range of AI disciplines. The grant has also made it possible to develop new graduate schools in AI and recruit senior AI researchers to Sweden. As well as supporting fundamental research, the funding has been used to develop the infrastructure required to utilize the new technologies.
