Jeremy Vollen is a postdoctoral scholar at Northwestern University, hosted by Edith Elkind. Prior to joining Northwestern, he obtained a PhD in computer science from UNSW Sydney, where he was advised by Haris Aziz. His research focuses on the design and analysis of collective decision-making methods that satisfy desirable normative and computational properties, with a particular emphasis on fairness and proportional representation. He studies these questions in democratic settings—such as participatory budgeting and citizens’ assemblies—as well as in AI decision-making tasks such as clustering. More broadly, his work lies at the intersection of algorithmics and microeconomic theory.
