Mathijs de Weerdt is Associate Professor on Algorithms for Planning and Optimization at Delft University of Technology. He has been chair of the Algorithmics group of TU Delft since 2018. An important challenge for him is to identify how Artificial Intelligence can contribute to the energy transition and to the sustainability of our society, and what is needed to speed-up such developments. He chairs the working group on Energy and Sustainability from the Netherlands AI Coalition (NL AIC), and led the writing process of their recent report "AI as an accelerator of the energy transition, opportunities for a carbon-free energy system“.
