What’s on the programme at #AIES2025?

The eighth AAAI / ACM Conference on Artificial Intelligence, Ethics, and Society (AIES) will take place in Madrid, Spain from 20-22 October 2025. The programme will feature keynote talks, two panels, discussions, paper presentations, and poster sessions.

Keynote speakers

There are two keynote talks, scheduled on Tuesday 21 and Wednesday 22.

  • Miriam FernandezResponsible AI and the Urgent Challenge of Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence
  • Emma Ruttkamp-BloemThe future of AI ethics

Panel discussions

The two panels will take place on Monday 20 and Tuesday 21.

  • Monday Panel: Headline Panel on Policy and Governance: Beyond the Brussels Effect: Competing Visions of AI GovernanceTed Lechterman (Chair), Maria Eriksson, David Leslie, Urs Gasser
  • Tuesday Panel: Pedagogy Panel: How (and to Whom) Do We Teach AI Ethics?Emanuelle Burton (Chair), Shannon Vallor, Julienne LaChance, Samer Hassan

Paper sessions

The seven paper sessions, taking place over the three days of the conference, will be split by the following themes:

  • Redescribing AI
  • Mitigating bias
  • Navigating differences and vulnerability
  • Dataset creation and knowledge production
  • AI and the relational self
  • Integrating AI into the workplace
  • Risk management

Discussion sessions

The conference will also feature discussion sessions, on these topics:

  • Shifting Power in AI Ecosystems
  • Evaluating LLMs in the context of patient autonomy and human rights
  • Alignment with Whom? AI, Lay Judgment, and Expertise
  • Stereotypes, fairness, and oppression in LLM-based social interactions
