As part of our ongoing focus on the UN sustainable development goals (SDGs), we are launching the next topic in this series: life on land. Posts on this topic will be featured on our website throughout October and November.
The UN’s aim with this goal is to protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss. In this focus issue we’ll be highlighting AI work relating to these topics.
In this series, our planned content includes an article by Andres Perez-Uribe and Louis Reymondin on AI tools for assessing zero-deforestation commitments, coverage of the use of machine learning to track the illegal wildlife trade, studies of crops and land use, interviews, and more.
You will be able to find all the articles related to this issue as we publish them at this link.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a collection of 17 interlinked goals designed to be a “blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all”. The SDGs were set in 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly and are intended to be achieved by the year 2030.
There is still time to contribute to this focus series. Just send us an email and we’d be happy to help you shape a blog post or set up an interview.
